Nike Zoom Vomero 5 retro running shoes in navy and white

Nike Zoom Vomero 5: the 2010 runner that came back as an everyday sneaker. Mesh and synthetic-leather upper, soft foam with Zoom Air in the heel and forefoot. Nike builds the upper in layers, mixing textile, leather and suede with plastic accents, a look that reaches back to the early 2000s. The soft foam and air units are there for a smooth ride at low weight, and the branding is deliberately minimal so the silhouette carries the shoe. 10 supplier photos and a video.

About this model

Nike first released this shoe in 2010 as the Zoom Vomero+ 5, the fifth Vomero, a year after the Vomero 4. The plus pointed to Nike+iPod: a slot in the midsole held the Nike+ sensor, which tracked runs through an iPod or iPhone. As a running shoe it did not last. In 2011 the Vomero 6 took its place.

The build is a 2010 running shoe through and through. The upper is mesh with synthetic leather overlays and a plastic cage on the side that supports the midfoot. The heel has ventilation ports. Underfoot, Nike set two Zoom Air units in Cushlon foam, one in the heel and one in the forefoot, and put rubber only where the sole wears fastest. One lab test weighed a men's US 9 at about 316 grams and measured 31.4 mm under the heel and 21.8 mm under the forefoot, a drop of about 9.6 mm.

The comeback began in 2018, when Samuel Ross used the model for an A-COLD-WALL* collaboration with Nike. In the early 2020s, with 2000s running shoes back in fashion, Nike brought it back as the Zoom Vomero 5, without the plus or the Nike+ technology, and now lists it as a lifestyle shoe rather than a running shoe. Over a thousand wearers voted that it fits true to size, and the testers found that the roomy fit made long hours of walking easier. The mesh got the top score in their breathability test. Grip on wet concrete was the weak spot.

How this works

  1. The supplier page shows a completely different product, and that is normal. What arrives is what is photographed here.
  2. Nothing to pick here: there is only one code, AD1720. That is the one.
  3. You pay at the supplier. The order, the payment and the delivery are with him, not with us.
