Nike Zoom Fly 6: a tempo running shoe. ZoomX foam with a carbon-fibre plate for a propulsive ride, lighter than the Zoom Fly 5. Nike positions it as a road racing shoe, and describes ZoomX as a foam that adds energy return to every stride, with the carbon plate as the part that propels you towards the finishing line. About this model
The Zoom Fly line goes back to 2017. The first model came out that June, on the same day as the Vaporfly 4%, as a shoe for recreational marathoners and distance runners. The sixth version arrived in November 2024, and Nike calls it a super trainer: a shoe for hard long runs and tempo workouts that you can also race in. During development Eliud Kipchoge tested it on asphalt and dirt roads around his home in Eldoret, Kenya. His advice is to do the week's workouts in this shoe rather than in race-day super shoes.
The midsole has a full-length carbon fiber Flyplate between two foams. ZoomX, which Nike calls its lightest and most responsive foam, sits on top, and SR-02 sits below. Nike added more ZoomX this time, and the stack is the tallest in its racing range. Nike says the shoe weighs at least 10% less than the Zoom Fly 5 and lists about 265 grams for a men's US 10, with an 8 mm drop. The upper is a two-layer woven mesh with a sock-like fit. The outsole is a thin web of rubber that keeps weight down and grips well on the road.
Reviewers found it true to size with a snug, race-style fit. The toe box runs a little short and shallow, and one tester advised against sizing up because she thinks the heel would slip. They liked it most for fast road workouts, and maybe races. Runners who want a roomy toe box will probably be disappointed.
