About this model
HOKA developed the Speedgoat with ultrarunner Karl "Speedgoat" Meltzer and launched it in 2015 for runners and hikers who want to go everywhere. iRunFar says it became the most popular shoe on the start lines of the world's top ultras, though fans felt the Speedgoat 6 strayed too far, with a looser upper and a firmer midsole. HOKA released the Speedgoat 7 on 1 February 2026 and built it for rocky ascents, slick mud and technical downhills.
The midsole is the biggest change. HOKA swapped the Speedgoat 6's CMEVA for a supercritical-foamed EVA aimed at more energy return, and iRunFar's tester called it probably the liveliest Speedgoat he has worn. The outsole keeps its Vibram Megagrip compound and Traction Lug texture on 5 mm lugs, set in a new orientation for mixed terrain. The upper is a recycled woven textile with a stretchy vamp for the forefoot to splay, a lay-flat tongue gusseted on both sides and a reworked heel collar, plus a new attachment point for a trail gaiter.
HOKA lists 275 grams for a men's US 10, a 37 mm heel stack and a 5 mm drop. Sizing is worth checking. HOKA notes that customers recommend going up half a size, and iRunFar's tester found it about a quarter size smaller than earlier Speedgoats, though he says the new upper locks the foot down well on rough ground. Believe in the Run adds that the toe box keeps the narrow, pointed shape the line has long been criticized for.
