About this model

The 530 started out as a running shoe. It first appeared in 1992 as a serious performance runner, the most forward-thinking one New Balance had at the time, and its headline feature was the brand's new ABZORB heel cushioning. In designing it, New Balance took cues from its competitors and added its own twist. It wasn't a big hit back then, though it didn't flop either, and around 2013, when chunky running shoes came back into fashion, the fashion crowd picked it up. The version made today goes back to the MR530, which New Balance describes as a reliable high-mileage running shoe with a turn-of-the-millennium look, now reintroduced with an everyday outlook.

The build still follows a running shoe. New Balance builds it on a breathable mesh upper, with overlays cut in sweeping curves and angles for the high-tech look. On the standard version those overlays are synthetic, and some versions have used leather or suede. Underneath is a segmented ABZORB midsole. In New Balance's description, ABZORB both cushions and resists compression, and that is how it absorbs impact. The brand gives the weight as 310 grams.

The construction also shifts a little from version to version. A 2020 release, for example, paired suede and mesh with an ENCAP midsole, ABZORB in the heel and a grippy rubber outsole. New Balance calls the whole design a throwback to its running shoes of the 1990s and 2000s, and to the ABZORB cushioning in particular.

How this works

  1. The supplier page shows a completely different product, and that is normal. What arrives is what is photographed here.
  2. There are 2 colours. At the supplier you pick them by a code, not by the photo.
  3. You pay at the supplier. The order, the payment and the delivery are with him, not with us.
